My January 2026 maps for #52maps

I started creating for-fun-maps for my #52maps project. I share these maps on my social media, but I will also share them per month in a higher resolution on this blog. These are my maps for January 2026.

I share my #52maps on:

All info about #52maps can be found on https://52maps.org/.

Week 1: Fragmentation

For “Fragmentation” I of course made a map of the municipality border of Baarle-Hertog and its surroundings.

Week 2: Density

This is a map of Belgium with the percentage of the area with buildings on it (according to @openstreetmap). This info is no hardening index, only the area of buildings is used.

Week 3: Influence

I wondered if there would be an influence between certain data sets, so I made three maps: about school failures, about average income and about population density.

Week 4: Transitions

I made a few maps with the transition over time of woodland areas around the place I live. For interpreting these maps you have to take into account that is an urban area and the data source may have defined “woodland” differently.
